“Growing up in a second-generation Mexican-American community is what gives me a sense of identity and purpose within my two nationalities. As a Latina in sports, the sports industry needs to continue building a strong community in-and-outside the organization to better celebrate those of different communities and showcase our appreciation for our diverse identities. Celebrating the communities we’re in, and uplifting others are what help us cultivate a more well-rounded world.”

Nohely Galindo, Marketing Projects Manager, Dallas Mavericks

“Being a Latina in Sports has always been a full circle moment for the inner niña in me. It’s a reminder that everyday I wake up, and show up and make her proud. The girl who sat in her living room watching Yankee games, Knicks games, world cups and dreamed of going but knew she couldn’t, porque no había dinero para juegos mi hija. She lives inside of me at every match day, everytime I’m on the pitch, not only showing up to work with pride but with the continued believe that a little girl in the stands sees me and knows she can become me. After 10 years in sports endless late game days, thousand of emails, run of shows and documents I am often reminded that I work for a game that brings culture, people together; from an empty venue to one filled with 80k+ people, I will continue striving to be the better version of myself and taking space in all the rooms that one day wasn’t welcoming of a young Latina girl.”

It means that when people say, “If you can see it, you can be it”, it’s true. The Latinx community is comprised of so many diverse individuals and inspiring stories that impact so many different areas of sports. This community is inclusive to all individuals and is just as much for someone looking to start their career as it is for someone that has made a career in sports. Latinx has introduced me to mentors, friends, and opportunities to grow my career as well as share industry knowledge. I am thankful to be surrounded by a community that uplifts one another and wants to succeed together.
